Job Description

The purpose of the role is to support the preparation and delivery of remote sensing projects via a combination of camera technician activities and data analysis. The primary part of the role will be undertaking regular survey flights both onshore mapping projects and Offshore Digital Wildlife Surveys, using state-of-the-art and current generation digital imaging systems, LiDAR systems and other specialist sensor equipment. You will be conducting system installations and ground testing prior to survey flights.

In-flight you will be motoring the survey system via the survey guidance software and conduct quality control on the data captured, along with downloading the flight data and survey logs post-flight. You will also be responsible for ensuring the safe storage of data in transit and finally completing post-survey data handling and data delivery. Full training will be provided, however prior knowledge or good transferable silk is highly desirable.


  • Be able to talk knowledgeably about the company’s general goals and objectives.

  • To carry out any additional activities that may be reasonably required or requested.
  • Preparation of risk assessment paperwork for each survey.
  • Preparation of camera hard drive pre and post-flight.
  • Preparation and completion of survey diary when required.
  • Preparation of all safety equipment for the survey.
  • Ensure all survey flight plans are correct and loaded onto the camera.
  • General aircraft, hangar and office duties as required.
  • 1-2 years of relevant work experience
  • Degree or postgraduate degree in a relevant subject.
  • To be technically competent and be able to talk about a number of subjects within your divisional area.
  • Proficient writing, data handling and communication skills.
  • This role will include overseas work, including survey work in the USA, which will require a US visa. You will also need a current passport.
  • The role will require time away from home, and working weekends and bank holidays as required.
  • Ability to swim.
  • Passing a survival at sea training course
  • Excellent time management skills.

The role is a split between being field based, which will require travel throughout the UK, as well as abroad, with time away from home, and office-based. You will need a driving licence along with the ability to travel when required. You will also need to live within commuting distance from the Chester office.
