As a Principal Ecologist, you’ll play a pivotal role in our team’s success. Responsibilities include:

  • Leading and developing the Inverness ecology team.

  • Planning and assigning team tasks, overseeing quality, managing performance, and providing support.

  • Collaborating with our Ecology Manager and Principal consultant in the north of England for seamless team integration and technical excellence.

What our client is seeking:

  • A BSc and/or MSc in Ecology or a related discipline.

  • Membership in a relevant professional body like CIEEM.

Your qualifications: 

  • Habitat surveys (Phase 1, UKHab, NVC).

  • European Protected Species survey and licensing.

  • Ornithology.

  • Leading and managing project teams.

  • EIA and HRA report production.

  • GIS proficiency.

  • Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW).

  • Ecological project management.

  • Effective communication.

Your previous experience: 

  • A strong grasp of Scottish wildlife legislation, ecological surveys, and the planning process.

  • Expertise in ecological survey and assessment (plants/habitats, birds, protected species).

  • Robust project management across diverse types.

  • Experience as an ECoW or Environment Manager.

  • The leadership of ecology project teams.

  • Proficient report writing and client communication.

  • EIA chapter and HRA report writing.

  • Budget management and financial reporting.

  • Line management/supervision of junior staff.
