Principal Environmental Scientist (Environmental Team)

Gaia’s client is a leading Irish-owned consultancy specializing in Environmental Science, Civil Infrastructure, Waste & Resource Management, and Energy and Planning. As part of their expansion in the environmental sector, they are seeking a skilled and experienced Principal Environmental Scientist to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to work as a key member of the Environmental Science team in either Cork, Dublin, or the Carlow office. You will collaborate closely with fellow professionals and contribute to the growth of our environmental business. This role will expose you to a diverse range of projects within the environmental sectors, such as planning and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), waste management, infrastructure development, waste licensing and permits, industrial emissions licensing, and environmental due diligence.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a project team, reporting to a Director

  • Project management of Environmental Impact Assessments, Strategic Environmental Assessments, Appropriate Assessments, planning application documentation, and other environmental reports

  • Provide expert technical assistance in environmental matters

  • Actively participate in business development initiatives

  • Manage the implementation of regulatory approvals

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Hold a degree in a relevant environmental discipline

  • Possess a minimum of 12-15 years of post-graduate experience in environmental positions

  • Chartered status in a relevant discipline

  • Excellent knowledge of planning, environmental, and waste management legislation

  • Proven track record in project management and delivering Environmental Impact Assessment Reports, planning, and license/permit applications for various projects

  • Essential experience in team and client management

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Flexible and a team player

  • Excellent report writing and technical reviewing skills

  • Experience in engaging with external stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and subcontractors

  • Possess a valid driver’s license
