Project Environmental Scientist (Waste & Resource Management)

Gaia’s client is one of Ireland’s largest Irish-owned consultancy firms, specializing in Civil Infrastructure, Waste & Resource Management, and Renewables. With their expertise in design and contract management, we contribute to various infrastructure projects such as roads, bridgeworks, rail systems, solid waste facilities, renewable energy installations, drainage systems, water and wastewater treatment facilities, airports, tunnels, and gas pipelines.

To support the expansion of their Waste and Resource Management business, we are seeking a dedicated Project Environmental Scientist to join our team. This role will be based in either our Dublin, Cork, or Carlow office, where you will work closely with fellow professionals and play an integral part in our Waste and Resource Management team. This position provides exposure to a wide range of areas within waste management and the environmental sector, including planning and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), waste management, infrastructure development, waste licensing and permits, Industrial Emissions licensing, and environmental due diligence.

Responsibilities:

  • Work within a project team under the guidance of a Project Director

  • Project management and coordination of Environmental Impact Assessments, Strategic Environmental Assessments, Appropriate Assessments, planning application documentation, and other environmental reports

  • Provide technical assistance in environmental matters

  • Collaborate with the team to contribute to project development initiatives

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Hold a degree in a relevant environmental discipline

  • Possess a minimum of 3 years of post-graduate experience in an environmental position

  • Experience in public and stakeholder consultation

  • Familiarity with planning, environmental, and waste management legislation

  • Proven track record in project management and involvement in the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessment Reports, planning, and license/permit applications for diverse projects

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Flexible and a team player

  • Strong report writing and technical reviewing skills

  • Experience in engaging with external stakeholders, clients, and subcontractors

  • Possess a valid driver’s license
