Role Objective This is an exciting opportunity to join a renewable energy developer at a time of transformation and innovation. 

 
This position is a strategic position within the Planning Department reporting to the Planning Manager. 
 
The Planning Specialist will be responsible for providing a multitude of planning services to the expanding onshore renewable energy business. 
 
Responsibilities 
 
The Planning Specialist will be required to work closely with the Planning Manager and the Senior Management Team to deliver a full range of planning services including relating to the following key areas: 
 
  • Development Management: Devising project planning strategies and supporting the submisson of quality planning applications including providing guidance/feedback to consultants.
  • Stakeholder Management: Developing and maintaining networks with external agencies including Local Authorities, An Bord Pleanala, environmental stakeholders and others. 
  • Representing the company in industry forum including Wind Energy Ireland and Irish Planning Institute. 
  • Forward Planning and Sustainable Development: Representing the business, including in written submissions, on national, regional and local government strategies and plans that frame onshore renewable energy development in Ireland. 
  • Legal and Policy: Maintaining an indepth and up to date knowledge of EU, national, regional and local policies and legal frameworks including tracking legal cases in the Courts. 
  • Planning Compliance & Enforcement: Understanding of planning compliance and enforcement issues.

Desired Technical/Professional Competencies:
 
  • Hold a degree and/or professional qualification in planning recognised by the Irish Planning Institute or the Royal Town Planning Institute or an equivalent. 
  • Minimum 5+ years suitable planning experience. 
  • Have the ability to assess and analyse complex case work and possess or display good judgement skills in making recommendations to support proper planning and sustainable development. 
  • Have the ability to prepare written reports in a timely manner that are clear and concise and presented to the highest professional standard. 
  • Have experience of dealing with infrastructural projects, for example, transport, energy infrastructure, water and waste projects. 
  • Have a sound knowledge of planning and environmental issues and relevant legislation both at national and European levels. 
  • Be experienced in providing updates, presentations and reports and ensuring any learning from same are used to enhance the business.
