    Bachelors Degree

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Remote Sensing Scientist. Based in the UK, location flexible, with the option to work remotely also.

About the role

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to join a rapidly growing Remote Sensing Consultancy team. The role offers the opportunity to work first-hand with some of the most detailed aerial image and LiDAR data captured on the planet, with unique projects taking place around the world including in Australia, the USA, Europe and the UK.

The main elements of the role will involve managing remote sensing projects and undertaking business development activities. The candidate will be expected to manage projects, speak directly with clients and liaise with the data operations and RS teams to deliver a range of outputs including orthomosaics, topographic outputs (DSM & DTM), point clouds, habitat maps, 3D models and much more.

The ideal candidate will help drive the business forward by identifying business opportunities and contributing to tender activity. The role requires a good level of understanding of the services the wider company delivers and there will be opportunities to undertake technical work, deliver presentations to industry via conferences, attend client meetings and online webinars.

Although primarily office based, there may be a requirement to undertake fieldwork on certain projects so a clean driving license would be highly desirable.

Due to time differences with some international projects, there may be a requirement to work outside of core hours to deliver projects on time.

For the right candidate there may be opportunities for progression within the role itself as well as progression into other areas of the business.

About you

Successful candidates will ideally have a degree in Remote Sensing / GIS / Earth Observation / Geography (or related discipline), or at least three years experience in one of these fields. It would also be suitable for someone with a related geospatial or surveying background who would like to transition across to a remote sensing role. You will have a proven track record of managing multiple projects effectively within time and cost deadlines. You will have excellent written skills and be able to produce reports and outputs using remotely sensed data.

You will have good communication skills and be able to work with senior management to help drive business development.

Due to the nature of the role, the ideal candidate will have an active interest in remote sensing and earth observation as well as experience of extracting information from airborne and/or satellite datasets. Knowledge of aerial data capture, photogrammetric workflows and experience working with LiDAR data would be highly desirable. However, this is primarily a project management role, so and understanding of the process rather that detailed experience is also acceptable, and it may be the case that you have comparable experience in a related geospatial field.

An engineering background with knowledge of field surveys and topographic mapping requirements would be advantageous but not essential for this role.

Required skills:

  • Excellent management skills and proven track record of managing project on time and in budget.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to speak with a wide audience including clients, industry professionals, peers and colleagues.
  • Experienced and capable user of GIS applications
  • Understanding of image interpretation techniques including image classification (highly desirable but not essential)
  • Experience of photogrammetric software (highly desirable but not essential)
  • Experience working with LiDAR/point clouds (highly desirable but not essential)
